The Story

The Biondi-Santi Tenuta Greppo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vertical Collection (2006, 2007, 2008) is an elite three-bottle set that captures a prestigious "triple-threat" era of consecutive vintages from the estate's historic BBS11 Sangiovese Grosso vines. Distributed in Alberta under Liquor Connect SKU 114862, this collection is almost exclusively presented in its Original Wooden Case (OWC), offering a rare side-by-side comparison of three distinct growing seasons. The 2006 Riserva is frequently cited as the "powerhouse" of the trio, earning 98 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for its monumental structure and complex layers of eucalyptus, smoke, and forest berries. In contrast, the 2007 Riserva is celebrated for its radiant and approachable elegance, characterized by silky tannins and a floral, red-cherry profile. Completing the set is the 2008 Riserva, a vintage defined by its high-toned acidity and "nervous" energy, showcasing refined scents of blue flowers, truffle, and moist soil.

2006 Vintage Rating

98 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

This is a re-release of a wine that first hit the market some seven years ago. The Il Greppo estate did not make a Riserva in the 2011 vintage, and the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is being reintroduced to the market (with only 2,500 bottles) to fill in this gap. This is a stunning wine that absolutely merits this considerable score increase. Made when dottore Franco Biondi Santi was alive and very present in the winery, this wine shows spectacular elegance and finesse, articulated with fine aromas of forest berry, blue flower, eucalyptus and lightly barbecued smoke. The wine shows extreme Sangiovese elegance and purity, and while the wine is almost fragile in approach, it ultimately reveals more brawn, volume and staying-power than anticipated.

2007 Vintage Rating

96 Points - James Suckling

A wine with wonderful layers of fruit and silky tannins. Loads of chocolate, cedar and dried flowers on the nose and palate. Full-bodied and muscular. Long and intense. Grows on the palate. Extremely well done for this producer; one of the best wines from here in a long, long time. This needs years of bottle age: better in 2018.

2008 Vintage Rating

96 Points by Wine Enthusiast

Impeccably balanced and loaded with finesse, this subtle stunner opens with aromas of blue flower, forest floor, truffle, moist soil and bright berry. The delineated palate offers juicy red cherry layered with white pepper, cinnamon and mineral alongside brisk acidity and firm but elegant tannins. It already has great depth but it's still young and austere so give it time to develop fully. Drink 2023–2048.
