The Story

The 2021 vintage of Château Capbern presents a medium crimson hue with subtle purple and ochre nuances at the rim. On the nose, it offers enticing aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, and plum, complemented by savory notes and hints of orange zest. The palate is juicy and elegant, showcasing fresh acidity and well-integrated tannins. Flavors of pure redcurrant pastille and red licorice are interwoven with fine graphite and savory oak nuances, leading to a chewy and prolonged finish. The wine underwent 18 months of aging in 40% new French oak barriques and has an alcohol content of 12.8%.

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast

The polished fruits give a strongly aromatic wine, juicy with black-currant flavors and a core of dark tannins. It is a ripe wine, seriously structured. Drink from 2027.

92 Points - James Suckling

A linear and rather lean 2021 with currant, black berry and graphite character. Medium body. Creamy tannins. Slightly chewy but will soften nicely. Drink after 2026.

89 Points - Wine Spectator

Leads with damson plum fruit, while fresh chalky minerality and savory notes sparkle underneath. Forms a singed cedar backdrop on the finish as the fruit and minerality work together. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030.
