The Story

Giant Steps Pinot Noir Primavera Vineyard 2020 is a refined single-vineyard red sourced from a site in the Woori Yallock sub-region of the Yarra Valley, known for its distinctive red volcanic clay soils. The 2020 vintage faced a challenging cool spring that resulted in low yields and small, concentrated berries with high natural acidity. Winemaking involved hand-picking and indigenous yeast fermentation, with the MV6 clone fermented as 100% whole bunches and the G-clone destemmed for a cold soak before wild fermentation. The resulting wine is characterized by a vibrant crimson-purple hue and a perfumed bouquet of wild raspberries, briary cherries, and freshly cut roses. On the palate, it is described as poised and energetic, offering juicy red fruit flavours and succulent herbs framed by fine, puckering tannins and a mineral-driven finish.

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast

This vineyard sits on red basalt soils. As the springtime name implies, it's the most delicate of the lot. An enticing cherry-juice hue, it's vibrant, bursting with primary red-berry fruit and backed by gentle spice and dried-floral aromas. The palate is medium weight, but fills the mouth with more plump, juicy berries. There's length and elegance here, and tannins are fine and well-placed, but this is a fruit show at the moment: Those more complex meaty aromas will need another few years before they show up to the party.
