Whisky Sponge Edition No.65b is the follow up to Edition 65a: our Glen Garioch 1991 30 Year Old. Like that bottling, this 1992, 30 year old Glen Moray started its life in a refill hogshead for 10 years, before being re-racked into a 1st fill port barrique for the remaining 20 years of its maturation.
This is a suitably rich, dark and opulent dram with finely detailed and integrated port character. There's abundant dark fruit, backed up with a rich seam of spiciness and then layers of dark chocolate, tobacco and rancio. Overall, a profile that nods more towards older style sherry cask whiskies in many ways.
A whisky for people who like to cosplay as Victorian landed gentry while consuming large drams from one of those old globe drinks trolleys and reciting elongated anecdotes about grouse shooting with Rudyard Kipling.
