The Story

Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove 2022 is a sophisticated and racy red wine that serves as the "second vin" of the legendary Ornellaia estate, offering a more accessible but high-class entry into the Bolgheri DOC. Despite the solar character of the 2022 vintage, the wine maintains signature elegance and freshness, displaying a deep red-purple hue and an intense bouquet of ripe black currants, blackberries, and violets with hints of Mediterranean herbs and toasted wood. On the palate, it is medium-to-full-bodied and generous, featuring silky tannins, a plush texture, and complex layers of dark cherries, figs, and cocoa. Matured for 15 months in French oak barriques (one-third new), this blend already provides a delightful drinking experience but has the structural balance to age gracefully for over a decade.

Following in the general Ornellaia philosophy, the team has been leaning off long maceration times for more delicate extraction. Blending for this wine usually occurs 12 months after fermentation. This vintage is structured and rich with sweet tannins and a supple texture. This hot vintage brings more fruit weight for sure, but the wine remains fresh and well balanced overall.
