The Story

A profound and high-toned expression of Syrah, the 2019 Laborde Double Select is sourced from a historic vineyard in La Consulta, featuring unique genetic material brought from the Rhône Valley by the viticulturist Luis Laborde. This vintage exhibits a deep, saturated purple-red hue and an expressive bouquet of blackberries, ripe plums, and crushed violets, interwoven with signature notes of black pepper, smoked meats, and a touch of wild herbs. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and exceptionally balanced, showcasing a concentrated core of dark fruit supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and a vibrant high-altitude acidity. Matured for 12 months in French oak, it delivers a long, savory finish with sophisticated nuances of espresso and forest floor.

94 Points - James Suckling

Aromas of wild blackberry, tobacco leaf, peppercorn and asphalt. It’s full-bodied with firm, tight tannins and fresh acidity. Structured and concentrated with a refreshingly cool, inky finish. Very fine tannins. Spicy clove and black pepper to the black fruit.

90 Points -

There were jammy notes of raspberry in the nose of the 2019 Laborde Double Select Syrah, produced with grapes from a massal selection made by Luis Laborde. It matured in French oak barrels, 35% of them new, for 12 months. It has ripe fruit and faint varietal notes of black olives and violets. It's medium-bodied, and the tannins are fine. It finishes with a faint bitter twist. 37,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2020.
