The Story

Luce Brunello 2019 appears an intense ruby red. The nose immediately impresses, with intensely-fragrant liqueur cherries, red plum, and orange zest that meld into smooth impressions of pipe tobacco and black licorice. The palate is striking for its approachability, vibrant and enfolding, with a structure admirably bolstered by perfectly ripe tannins that proceed to a citrus-edged finish.

Black cherries and blueberries with walnut and lavender undertones. Medium body with very fine tannins that run the length of the wine and caress every inch of your palate. Fresh and vivid. A wine for the cellar, but already fantastic to taste. Best after 2027.

Frescobaldi’s Luce is always attention-worthy, and if you couldn’t make a good Brunello in 2019 you never will, but the Luce 2019 still managed to make my jaw. From the comforting whisper of a nose to the cool night air of the palate, this is an evocative, truly memorable expression.

The Tenuta Luce 2019 Brunello di Montalcino carries a good amount of oak spice with campfire ash, forest floor, dried cherry, cassis, rye bread and something floral like a hydrangea or pressed rose. There is a balsamic note as well with Sambuca or aniseed. This is a medium to full-bodied Brunello (with 35,000 bottles made) that shows dried fruit flavors and a substantial 15% alcohol pull on the lengthy finish.
