The Story
A bold expression of Oakville’s finest terroir, The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from the legendary To Kalon Vineyard. The wine is aged for 21 months in French oak barrels and another year in bottle to provide ample time to mature. This process results in a rich and concentrated core of dark and red berry fruit with a lengthy finish that just keeps going.
Black cherry, graham cracker, black olive, and cedar complemented by notes of dried sage and sweet tarragon. A concentrated core of dark and red berry fruit, wrapped in black spice, graphite, and savory herb notes. Rich and concentrated with an unmistakable presence for such a young wine. Tannins are longer grain and more pronounced, and the lengthy finish just keeps going.
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, Mondavi's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard Reserve delivers waves of black cherries, loam and spice. Full-bodied, it's rich and concentrated, with a long, velvety finish that adds hints of dark chocolate.
95 Points - James Suckling
So supple, rich and relaxed at first sip, then firming up nicely on the palate to reveal good aging potential. Layered with oak spies, blackcurrants, black cherries, cedar, cinnamon and dark chocolate. Quite substantial yet fine-grained tannins boost the structure, along with good acidity and a pH of 3.67, which is rather crisp for cabernet sauvignon in Napa Valley. Drinkable now, but best from 2030.
92 Points - Wine Spectator
Broad and caressing in feel, with generous black currant and dark plum fruit that’s gently laced with hints of alder, walnut husk, warm loam and roasted vanilla bean. Understated and direct, but with sneaky length thanks to a twang of iron on the finish. An admirable effort. Drink now through 2034.
