The Story
A bridge between the worlds of Islay Scotch and American Craft! McCarthy’s (from Clear Creek Distillery in Oregon) was one of the very first American Single Malts ever made. This cask (#5) was distilled from U.K. barley malted with Islay peat and aged for 3 years and 11 months in a second-fill Oregon oak cask. Bottled at a staggering cask strength of 114.1 proof (57.05% ABV), it offers a rare chance to taste McCarthy's signature peat at a much higher proof than their standard releases. It is earthy, smoky, and uncompromising.
NOSE
Powerful campfire smoke and peated malt balanced by vegetative notes of hay and iodine.
PALATE
Rich and smoldering. Heavy flavors of smoked malted barley and leather are sweetened by vanilla ice cream drizzled with maple syrup.
FINISH
Long, earthy, and warming. A persistent trail of peat smoke, seasoned oak, and savory salt.
